Siphamandla Ngcobo participated in the 2015-16 Clipper Race and sailed from New York to London, the Atlantic homecoming leg of the race.
Born in 1992 in Durban, Spha grew up in different places of Kwazulu Natal and settled in Umbilo, a small suburb close to the city centre of Durban. He was raised by a hard working single mother who continues to be a strong role model for him.
Spha is currently studying Electrical Engineering at Thekwini College with the aim of becoming a construction engineer. It is his dream to open his own company one day in order to create employment opportunities for young people in his community who have dropped out of school.
After coming back from the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race in 2016 and bitten by the sailing bug, Spha – or “Superman” as the crew had started calling him – started working at Sail Africa as an Assistant Coach. He is also doing his SAS (South Africa Sailing) Day Skippers course.
In the autumn of 2016, Superman was invited to join Lebalang Molobele, our first generation Sapinda Rainbow Ambassador, to also become a member of our Advisory Committee.
We are very happy to have Superman on board!
