Sir Robin Knox-Johnston

In 1969, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston made history as the first person to circumnavigate the world by sailboat. He founded Clipper Ventures in 1995 together with CEO William Ward, wanting to provide everyone with the opportunity to experience the challenge and sheer exhilaration of ocean racing because there are far more flags of success on the top of Mount Everest than on the high seas. Through the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, Sir Robin continues to be at the forefront of sailing and has introduced thousands of people to this life-changing experience.

Sir Robin started sailing in 1957, when he joined the Merchant Navy as a Deck officer with the British India Steam Navigation Company, gaining his Master's Certificate in 1965.

He was President of the Sail Training Association, a youth development organisation, and he also served as a Trustee of the National Maritime Museum at Greenwich, besides being on the Sports Lottery Panel and Sport England Council for a number of years. Sir Robin is currently President of the Little Ship Club and the Cruising Association and Chairman of Clipper Ventures.

Sir Robin was knighted in 1995, and has uniquely been the UK's Yachtsman of the Year three times. He was ISAF sailor of the Year with Peter Blake in 1994 and in 2007 was one of the first six inductees into the ISAF Hall of Fame.

Sir Robin has personally followed the progress of the Sapinda Rainbow Ambassadors throughout their development over the past years and we are very proud to have him on our Advisory Committee.
