As Chief Country Officer, Dr. Hugo Tempelman is part of The Foundation’s Executive Committee and manages the local office in Pretoria.
Hugo is a Dutch medical doctor who arrived in South Africa in 1990 when he started working for the Department of Health of the former KwaNdebele. In 1994 he initiated the Ndlovu Medical Centre in Elandsdoorn Moutse Limpopo. Initially set up as a family practice, the centre grew from a small township practice into a full-blown regional care centre over the course of a few years. Hugo was the first in the province of Mpumalanga to set up a free antiretroviral rollout site for AIDS patients in 2003, which went against the political will at the time.
Hugo successfully managed to grow the Ndlovu Medical Centre into a medium-sized NGO called Ndlovu Care Group, which is currently active under trust name Ndlovu Medical Trust (established in 1999).
